18th of September

For the 18th of September (the national independence day) my school has each class perform a traditional dance from Chile.
There were dances from the northern indigenious cultures, the central farming cultures, and of course the vaceros from the south. There was even a island dance from Easter Island.

This is a video of one of part of one of the dances my class performed. See if you can spot me... Chao for now

Settling In

Nothing to exciting to report in on, I have just been settling in the last few weeks, Coyhaique is really starting to feel like home. On the 18th of september (friday) there is a huge national celebration of their indepedence, the equivelent of our 4th of july.

I am really looking forward to having a few days off from school, getting to relax with family, and eating all the food (There is meant to be a TON of food- Its like thanksgiving and fourth of july all rolled into one).

I suppose the biggest news of this past week is that I now officially have a girl friend, before we were just "andando" and now we are "pololando" =D

No A Las Represas= No to the Dams!
Theres has been a lot of political tension as of late regarding the proposed dams. Most of the politicians and all of the people with money at stake (the spanish corperation Endesa) are pouring a ton of money into the Pro-Represas campaign.
However the people who value the Patagonia's natural beauty more than its energy producing potential (such as myself) have been countering it with a strong grass roots campagin called Patagonia sin Represas (google it for more info)

El Mate
This is a hand with a cup of mate, which is at the center of a round about/ plaza near my school. Everyone meets up here during lunch and after school to relax and chat with friends.
